Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a session?

50 mintues

Do couples sessions cost more than individual sessions?

No

Do you accept insurance?

No, because An Open Mind, LLC uses a coaching approach rather than traditional counseling.  Insurance companies will not reimburse for coaching services. Typically rates are similar to those of behavioral health specialist copays.

What’s the difference between Coaching and Counseling?

Coaching is based in the here and now and works towards goals for the future; whereas, Counseling is based in the past and works towards goals for the present.  Coaching uses radical acceptance of the past in order to move forward into a healthier future.  Coaching is much more interactive and energetic than typical therapy sessions.  Advice is given and personal stories are used in Coaching sessions, which are not typically found in therapy or counseling sessions

Do you always try to keep couples together?

No, not at all.  I work from a healthy versus unhealthy approach.  If a couple makes each other unhealthy and they are unwilling to change those behaviors, then those two would likely be healthier on their own.  There are some people that are just absolutely toxic to one another and it is often very difficult to see or understand, but with my objective perspective, it makes it easier for them to comprehend and take action.  It is always my hope that relationships will work out, but my goal is always to make people healthier, happier individuals and those two things just don't always go together.

How often do I have to come for sessions?

There is no set standard on how often you will come.  We will work together to determine a plan for you that works with your schedule, presenting problems, and budget.

How quickly do your clients typically begin to see progress?

Many of our clients tend to feel better after the first session and often times begin making progress immediately. Other clients take a couple of sessions before they start seeing changes, but it is rare that it takes longer than the first 2-3 sessions.

Besides the fact that AOM uses coaching instead of traditional counseling, why pay for AOM services out of pocket rather than going to a traditional therapist that is covered under my insurance plan?

There are many benefits with AOM that you might not find in traditional therapists. By not working off of an insurance plans standards, we are able to treat our clients they way they need to be treated and not by the way some textbook says we have to. Clients should always pick someone that matches their needs and personality rather than someone that takes their insurance. AOM works non-traditional hours to make attending sessions more convenient for the client. We also respond to texts and emails regularly as support and encouragement between appointments, a major difference from most therapists. AOM always finds a way to see a new client within one week of the referral and doesn't put people on a waiting list or make them wait for weeks at a time to be seen.

What type of payments do you take?

Cash, Credit, or PayPal

$75-125 per 50 minute session depending on the time of day and which person you see.
